Prof Abhijit Sen

Prof.Dr.AbhijitSen, is the professor at the Department of English & Other Modern European Languages, Visva-Bharati University, Shantiniketan. He's a Renaissance scholar, translator and theatre activist. In 1999 he was awarded Charles Wallace Trust funding to attend International Conference at Oxford University and pursue research work at Oxford/Stratford/London. His research areas include Renaissance Studies (specially Shakespearean Theatre); Theatre Studies and Rabindranath Tagore (particularly his drama and theatre). Pearson Longman has published his edition of Shakespeare's 'Macbeth' with Introduction and Annotations in 2009. His other major academic works include a recent English translation of Tagore's TasherDesh as Kingdom of Cards, in Essential Tagore, ed. FakrulAlam&RadhaChakravarty (Harvard University Press). He delivered a lecture on 'Shakespeare in 19th Century Bengal: different faces, different manifestations' on 22nd April, 2017 to the departmental students.

Prof Siddhartha Dey

Prof. Siddhartha Dey, an ex-student of the Department of English of this college, RKMRC, Narendrapur, got a first from Jadavpur University in M.A, stood first in the PSC Examination, teaches English Literature at Bidhannagar Government College, delivered a lecture on 'Storytelling and Us: how we make stories and are made by them' on 18th April, 2017 to the departmental students.

Prof. Patterson

Prof. Ronan Paterson is the Principal lecturer at the School of Design, Culture & the Arts of Teesside University. He gained a master's degree in English from Trinity College, Dublin. He also worked full-time as an actor in the Abbey, Ireland's National Theatre. He has worked as an actor, director and producer for theatre, film and television companies in Britain and Ireland and has served on the board of various arts organisations, and was Chair of The Actor's Centre North East throughout its existence. He delivered a lecture on 'The Four Shakespearean Tragedies' on 5th February, 2017 to the departmental students.

Welsh Literature

On 3rd February, 2017, the Department organised a seminar, jointly with British Council Division, Kolkata,on Contemporary Welsh Literature. Twoyoung Welsh writers, SionTomos Owen and Gary Raymond, spoke, on new, emerging trends in Welsh literature, especially after Wales getting itsown Parliament in 1999 and having an education policy of its own. The emphasis is now on Welsh literature in Welsh Language. This interactivesession generated great interest among the students.
